about

This track harks back to the track 'Milk' from DT's first Ep, which also features a wind section, but Upholstery's added oddness comes from the use of a harpsichord. The orchestral instruments blend with synths, a thumping bassline and Mary Anne's signature vocals to create a sort of Baroque pop sound

lyrics

From blue sleep in black waves
Until his face fades
It's so disappointing
To still wake up every morning clutching something
That might have meant something to someone, somewhere once
And you'll say"I didn't know my could bend that way"

You know me
Well, you should introduce me sometime
Because the upholstery's the only thing
Keeping me together

During time spent watching the moon
And falling apart
While failing to understand things
I overheard myself say
I dream in colour
Of some wonderful other way
To loosen my grip on the notion
That it's not tomorrow that scares me
It's repeating yesterday

You know me
Well, you should introduce me sometime
Because the upholstery's the only thing
Keeping us together
